I've used an off-brand once and I could definitely tell the difference. The only one I'll buy now is the PUR. The multi-packs should be a better price for buying in quantity.

I purchased this filter because it was highly recommended and i bought it at a Lowes store because that's where i bought the fridge. The filter was not on sale but i checked online for a rebate and there was one.

These filters are very easy to install, just make sure you push it in until it locks in place. I looked at Loewe's and it was $39.99 plus tax. I bought one online for $30 including shipping and no tax. They don't seem to last too long. I've had my current one for about two months and it's already down to 72% of its life. I wonder whether that's a function of the amount of water flowing through it...

Easy to replace - the cap cover on the original / factory filter was broken, but was replaced under warranty from manufacturer. Advice: have a gallon pitcher or bucket close by after replacing; you need to run the water from the dispenser for about 4 minutes to get all of the air out of the lines.
